2004 Factory Outlet Centre Manager of the Year
Factory Outlet Centre Manager of the Year
Neil Wilson (left), centre general manager at McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Mansfield, received the 2004 SCEPTRE Factory Outlet Centre Manager of the Year Award from Pat Morgan, editor of Shopping Centre.
Wilson, who was appointed in 1999, oversaw a 12-month, £8m redevelopment to convert the scheme from a ‘department store’ format to 69 individual stores. Among key performance indicators over the previous year were a nine per cent increase in turnover, four per cent rises in footfall and customer spend, customer/tenant complaints reduced by three per cent and investment value up by 2.7 per cent.
Wilson uses the Retail Academy as the driver of good tenant relations, enabling 65 store managers and staff to complete NVQs, in addition to in-house training without charge. Business review meetings, 83 of which took place in the previous year, stimulate mutually-beneficial activity.
Finalists
Mike Davidson - managing director, Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth.
Peter Gardner - centre manager, Gretna Gateway Outlet Village.
