Shopping Centre Marketing Manager of the Year

Deborah Owen-Ellis Clark, marketing director of Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth, received the 2004 SCEPTRE Shopping Centre Marketing Manager of the Year Award from David Pelham, group property director of sponsor ScreenFX.

She joined the waterfront shopping and leisure destination before opening in 2000. The strategy for 2003 was to evolve the Destination Unmissable message and target 26- to 45-year-old AB females within the 60-minute drivetime. Last year also saw the launch of the Striving for Excellence Awards programme, which resulted in 100 per cent tenant participation.

The marketing initiatives contributed to a sales growth of 18 per cent. Over 75 per cent of visitors visited more than four times during the year; over 30 per cent now stay longer than four hours; 43 per cent are aged between 26 and 45; and 50 per cent visit from a 30 minute-plus drivetime.
