Bill Nettelfield, property director of Calendar Club, received the 2004 SCEPTRE Short-Term Merchant of the Year Award from Julia Langkraehr, managing director of sponsor Retail Profile.
The company specialises in retailing calendars and related merchandise and its units are a common sight in shopping centres from September to January. It operates in shops, ranging from 500 sq ft to 1,500 sq ft superstores, and mall units, which come in a variety of shapes and sizes.
Calendar Club was formed in the USA in 1993 and boasts nearly 1,000 seasonal shops worldwide. It made its UK debut in 1998 with 12 stores, but 2003 saw it opening 140 stores, evenly split between shop and mall units, across the country. The company paid landlords more than £2m in rent during the year.
