Richard Dennery (left), city centre manager for the Central Gloucester Initiative, received the 2004 SCEPTRE Town Centre Manager of the Year Award from Steve Boyden, managing director retail and shopping centre division of sponsor Securiplan.
Dennery has presided over some spectacular successes in Gloucester, including footfall in the city centre up 2.6 per cent in a year and occupancy up to 92 per cent. Three years ago, the initiative had 10 core funders and no members. This was increased to 18 core funders and no fewer than 155 members.
Dennery is a key member of the regeneration team, and inward investment is on the rise. A £100m regeneration project has received consent, and another, worth £200m, is on the way. The new urban regeneration company is expected to lever £1bn over the next 10 years.
