Karen Brooks, centre manager of the Stratford Centre in east London, received the 2004 SCEPTRE Young Achiever of the Year Award from Alistair Nelson, general manager multiservices & outsourcing of sponsor Rentokil Initial.
One of Brooks’ main objectives when she was appointed centre manager in 2003 was to improve communication with retailers and their perception of the management team. In a retail satisfaction survey, ratings showed a marked increase, with retailers feeling “like customers rather than just tenants”. Her many changes have led to improved cleaning standards, a centralised, cost-reducing waste management system, the elimination of illegal parking, more efficient and safe deliveries and licensed parking for tenants.
Owner Land Securities praises Brooks as a leader who is open to change and able to implement modern management practices.
